SCR Full Form : What Does SCR Stand For?

The most common full form of SCR is Silicon Controlled Rectifier. It's a three-terminal semiconductor device that functions like an electrical switch. Here's a breakdown:

Silicon: Refers to the material used in the device's construction.

Controlled Rectifier: Highlights its ability to control the flow of current in one direction.

Applications: They are commonly used in power control circuits, rectification (converting AC to DC), and motor control applications due to their ability to handle high currents and voltages.

Operation: Unlike a regular diode, SCRs require a small trigger pulse on their gate terminal to initiate conduction. Once triggered, they remain conducting even when the gate signal is removed. To turn them off, specific circuit techniques are needed.
